This was the final project for my Graphic Design II class. Before I was able to make this painting, there were several steps that I needed to take. First, I had to have a photo of myself taken. Then I needed to upload that into Adobe Illustrator and make it a black and white image. Next I printed the photo onto paper able to be projected. Then I pinned a large piece of paper to the wall where the photo was being projected. I then traced the image in pencil, and with the outline made, I painted it. I then created hand patterns using spray paint. It came over much better than I ever could have hoped. If I were to improve anything, I would definitely like to work on my spray painting skills as this was my first attempt. It just goes to show big projects are possible; they just take a lot of work.
Drawing: Figure Drawing #1, Pencil, 9"x12"
This was my first figure drawing. It is one of my favorite pieces of art that I have made because it came off very well for my first attempt at something new. It often seems really daunting to start trying to draw something with so much detail, but I learned that it's good to just start, and then you never know, you might just produce a really amazing piece of work. I would definitely want to improve my neatness and blending with shading because these short comings take away from the piece as a whole.
Digital Photography: My Light, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, 2'x3'
This was my self portrait project that I created in my Sophomore year of high school. When making this project, I wanted to convey the various emotions and thoughts I was feeling during the time I created this piece because a self portrait shouldn't just show what you look like but what you think like. I still wasn't accustomed to Adobe at this point, and it shows as I am sure there are better methods and tools at my disposal to perform the various actions I did during the creation of this piece. However, it was one of my favorite pieces with many different layers in it.
Drawing: Figure Drawing #2, Pencil, 9"x12"
This figure drawing was one of the first assignments given to me for me 2D Advanced Arts. Out of the four options given to us, I chose this one because it looked the most interesting and complex to me. This piece didn't take all that long, but it actually came out very well, which always surprises me. I always am proud of the quality work I can produce in such a short time. I would like to work on my ability to draw hands in the future, and I continue to produce page after page of hand studies.
Drawing: Observational Art #1, Pencil, 9"x12"
In this observational drawing, I picked out a few objects on the dresser in my room. I emphasized the cropping to add depth to the image. If I did it again, I would be a bit neater with lines, and I would have taken more time, but for a quick sketch, it turned out incredibly well.
Drawing: HERO, Adobe Illustrator, 8.5"x11"
This particular piece of art is rather special to me as it is the first piece of art I made using Adobe Illustrator on my own time with my own computer and drawing tablet. It is a temporary cover I designed for a story I plan on creating. I ran into technical difficulties, so it's not nearly as complete as I would have liked, so that is definitely the thing I would want to do differently the most. This is also one of the few pieces of art I have done that I have added color to, so although there is quite a lot I have to work on and improve, it is my favorite piece of art that I have made. I learned that even though I have improved in my art, I have a lot of room to grow, and that is exciting for myself.
This is my conceptual art piece. In it I used mediums I was not familiar with in an attempt to express current feelings of anger and confusion I was feeling during the piece's creation. I attempted to show dismay and confusion at the human heart and wondering why the human heart feels the way it does. It is meant to appear chaotic and hard to grasp for a normal human to comprehend and meant to link with other troubled artists whose feelings are often messy and unpleasant to be around. If I were to do it again, I would definitely take more time and care with it as well as practice with the mediums I used more.
Drawing: The Hollow and The Hero, Pencil, 9"x12"
This piece is of two men: one hollow and empty with the other at the peak of their glory as a hero. The concept for this came to be after I listened to two songs that I felt, with a bit of imagination, could be referring to the same person. Although this is surely not what the composers intended, as they share no relation, it got me to create the piece. The piece is meant to demonstrate both extremes of these two's existence could be reversed, and both ways would make sense. What I mean is that the man who is hollow could one day become the glorious hero; whereas, the hero could fall from grace and become the hollow man. Both interpretations are valid and caused me to think about the idea of change.
Drawing: Self Portrait #1, Pencil, 9"x12"
This is my self portrait, taken in my new favorite coat, at the top of my stairs. I don't know how I want to be remembered, but I would like people to know of my creativity--but not everything about me--as I have never liked attention. This is why my mouth is hidden, and my body blends with the coat. I enjoy drawing myself as I know me well and I know more than anyone how to perceive me no matter what. Overall, one of my favorite pieces.
